Writing

About My Writing

My writing spans poetry, creative nonfiction, journalism, and professional content, grounded in an exploration of environmental memory, embodied experience, and the relationship between internal and external landscapes. Rooted in place, my work engages themes of identity, connection, and the spiritual dimensions of lived experience.Across genres, I write through a practice of attention—working with memory, landscape, and narrative to explore how meaning is formed, carried, and expressed. My creative work often unfolds through scene and image, reflecting the same processes of layering, excavation, and relation present in my visual practice. In my professional writing, I support work in education, leadership, and community development, helping organizations shape and communicate ideas with clarity and purpose.

My Creative Process

Writing is an evolving practice of presence, curiosity, and deep listening. I draw from the natural world, lived experience, and relationships to place and community. Through poetry, essays, and reflective narrative, I work through moments of encounter, tension, and connection, tracing where internal experience meets and is shaped by the external world. I understand creativity as a spiritual and ritual practice that supports integration, a sense of interconnectedness and overall well-being. Through poetry, essays, and reflective narrative, I engage in forms of space-building through language, where meaning, identity, and experience take form.

Editorial Leadership

I serve as Editor in Chief and Publisher of Red River Review, one of the earliest online literary journals, originally founded in 1999. Under my leadership, the journal is undergoing a full relaunch and expansion—broadening its scope to include poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid forms, and visual art.

My editorial work centers on curating and developing literary work, supporting contributors through thoughtful feedback and mentorship, and shaping the journal’s editorial vision and thematic direction. I also lead digital strategy, publication design, and community engagement, while building partnerships that support the growth of a dynamic literary and creative ecosystem.

This work reinforces my commitment to storytelling as a practice of reflection, connection, and cultural engagement.

Publications

Poetry

My poetry has appeared in Red River Review, Emerge Literary Journal, The Rusty Nail, and other publications. My work explores environmental memory, embodied experience, and the tension between internal and external landscapes. Rooted in place, it engages identity, inheritance, relationship, and the spiritual dimensions of lived experience through image, scene, and sensory detail.

Journalism, Features & Essays

My freelance work for the Pueblo Star Journal and Huerfano World Journal highlights community-driven initiatives, rural living, environmental stewardship, and the intersections of art, storytelling, and public life, exploring how narrative strengthens civic and cultural connection.

I also write essays and features through my Soulful Living platform, exploring creativity, leadership, well-being, and intentional living through reflective and place-based inquiry. Across this work, I engage themes of education, innovation, and community development, including topics such as community makerspaces, artificial intelligence and workforce development, and the evolving relationship between technology, learning, and public life.

Professional Writing & Editing

Alongside my creative practice, I support organizations, businesses, and individuals through writing and editing that emphasizes clarity, structure, and meaningful communication. My work focuses on helping ideas take shape—whether through program design, narrative development, or strategic documentation.

I work across a range of formats, including grant proposals, strategic plans, program and business communications, curriculum and instructional content, and impact-focused storytelling.

I also provide editing and manuscript support for creative and nonfiction work, offering line editing, structural editing, and developmental feedback for essays, articles, and longer-form projects.
